Japan Club Minutes

Members: 11

Date: December 9 2008

Hope everyone had fun at our surprise trip to Mitsuwa, and at Pocketcon!

We are buying tickets for AnimeNext, 30$ currently. Contact us(more specifcally, contact Quel) before the end of the semester if you want to go.

Tokyo Jam will be coming out next semester! And next semester, we will send out an e-mail when and where the meetings will resume.

Next week, there will be no Japan Club Meeting, nor Anime Night. Enjoy your winter break!

Luis will no longer be able to attend Japan Club Meetings. For really important meetings, seek Quel.

If you think you're up to the fun and challenge of being an E-board member,or know someone who would be great in those positions, elections will take place next semester for Media Consultant and Program Coordinator.

The Media Consultant is in charge of Anime Nights, getting anime for our library, and anything else that falls under media.
The Program Coordinator is in charge of making sure our future events go smoothly.

If you're interested in any other positions, another election for the entire E-board will take place in the first week of April.

Look forward to next semester's ChibiCon! We've gotten more colleges and more clubs to co-sponsor with us! But we're still going to need help from all the members in our club, so if you can think of any want to lend a hand, let us know!

But we also need ideas for any future events and people good at websites as well. Next semester is all about YOU and YOUR HELP!

China Town (Sept '08)

So the Chinatown trip was scheduled for us to leave the station this past Friday at 3:00PM but for many circumstances and a lot of people that decided to come with us we had to wait muchly. :P

Boredom took over most of us. That was until Quel person thingy decided to come with her super camera (film camera may I add). That was the beginning of the 'odd'essey.

The waiting quickly turned into a photoshoot. Left and Right there were members of Japan club laying down on the Train Platform thingy forming "Hi" Melissa being the dot in the "i" while Quel photographed us from the top view of the platform. :P

After a billion years later and two other trains, ours was here and thus we ran inside it and found the coolest seats ever (they move ^_^!).
While everyone was half dead and between many conversations my froggy thingy wallet had decided to eat Angela's pussy cat :P (no pun intended). In the mist and bliss of immaturity our vice president had decided to be the responsible one and made sure we were not going to end up in China (lol) so she made sure that we took the best way possible.
To make the long story short, we arrived at china town and I had learned to use a metro card ^_^ (aparently there's and arrow that tells you the way it which it should go, go figure). We passed by, or better said we "flew" by many little stands of fish, crabs, dragon fruit, and little dollar stores as well as many asian porn magazine stands. "I could stay here forever" Angela person mentioned while Quel responded "That's why we're not staying here." Thus we continued to this little piece of heaven called the Elizabeth Centre. There we spent much time looking at lots of little anime thingies like toys, cards, plushies, lots of mirrors, pillows, jewelery, and whatnots. After a good hour or more we met at the bottom of a escalator and lefted to go to a weird store, kinda hidden since it was in a basement, but that it had really cool posters. I took the coolest indeed ha ha :D. Right after that was the freakiest thing ever. As we were walking out of this obscure store I had spotted a familiar face so stalkerly I approached and asked this woman thingy "HI! I know you from somewhere" well it turned out that it was AJES the anime club from Rutgers University whom had also decided to take advantage from the free transit week to get to chinatown.
Weirdly enough Suzanne had a plushy I belive it was the black piggy and a person from AJES had the white one ( I might be wrong) but the point is that both had bought the same yet opposite piggies, forshadowing? Quel of course had to take a picture of them.
We went on our own way (to the chinatown arcade) while AJES waited for their remaining people so we could get all together later. While the rest of Japan Club stayed at the arcade playing games, Angela person and I had to escape lol (bet'cha guys didn't know that >:O) to the little stores, I thought about getting a haircut while we waited but i gots peer pressured into not doing it :(. Eitherway we had come back and Stewart/Mark :P had a some tokens left in this hand aparently keeping them as a reminder. Well anyways we waited there for a couple of mins and Quel person decided to photograph us again. Partly for fun and homework (yay photography class), mainly fun. Well this was fun untill of course most of the girls noticed shoes and lefted all the guys Melissa and Angela. Kinda reminded me of that youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCF3ywukQYA) because they yelled OMG SHOES!! and ran in the store.

Right after all the shoe thing we got a call from AJES saying that they were now all here so we decided to meet and went to practically take over China, or rather a Chinese restaurant. Twenty people in total, ten in each table it was time for the members to socialize and the e-boards to have what it was a "business dinner." In which of course we decided that we shall help them with their con and they will help out in ours. Was it expensive? just in case you are wondering, no, for what I know, Angela and I asked pretty much for the same thing, and everything came out to like 5 bucks, not bad huh?

On our way back we went to an icecream place, a bubble tea place and the Saint Genaro's Fair thingy, or so I heard, at little Italy (no little passport was required) where I got lost :( So I stayed with the AJES people until half an hour later Japan Club came to get me :( There was this crazy guy with a python so you could take a picture with him, tons of pasta; this literally was a susage fest. Italian sausages left and right whe'eva you looked (lol).

Our Suzanne and her man-friend were pretty much lost so Mrs. VP and yours truly had to leave our babies in AJES's care while we went to look for them just to find out that they would be coming home on their own, hopefully later that night.
In the meantime AJES and Japan Club were on their way to the subway when Japan Club turned left on a corner and AJES people were all like "BLASTED, that's not the way and blah blah blah" and we were like "Yes it is blah blah blah" so we decided to play a little race whoever get to the station first pretty much wins. So we got in the subway our own way and Angela and I ran through the streets of New York until we reached Penn Station. We were ready to aboard the train and no sign of AJES. Quel called them and supposedly them they were in the station but curiously enough nowhere to be seen. So we decided to take the train at exactly 11:35PM without saying good bye to the AJES people (since they were invisibly present at the station).
Once inside the train we found out that the whole train was filled with students from MSU. So the guy checking the tickets was pretty much checking all our id's (free transit week). I kinda felt like I was in the Hogwarts Express :P
Well the ride back was a bit lethargic, undertandably since everyone was tired so on our way out of the station and into the parking deck there was a horrible tragedy. In this whole trip Quel had only bought one thing and she had saved it, resisting temptation to drink it, for her man-friend, a soda thingy with the popping crytal ball inside (whatever the name is).
The fate of it was to die that night. Horribly broken and its insides splattered all over the floor the sweet smelling drink existed no longer. Quel's sad face covered and filled the chilly midnight air and all of the sudden not everything was that bad. . . one thing survived . . . its ball! (lol)
The most envied prize of this soda had finally been freed from its crystal prison and it was Quel's prize now. Not everything was that bad. Here it ended our trip to Chinatown this past September 19th, 2008. Hopefully if you couldn't make it, this gave you an insight of what it was (I tried to put as much detail as I remembered) and I hope that you can make it on the next one. Feel free to post any comment you may have or corrections to this story. Hope you all liked this trip ^_~

Your President,
Luis

for the next meeting...

It seems that our next meeting will be much fun. We will be doing our 15 minutes of japanese learning, along with planning for other events. We will be choosing chefs for the Iron Chef competetion, along with talking about our bake sale.

If you have any recipies that we could use in our halloween bake sale, let us know. Call us, email us, leave a note in our mailbox, etcs.. We are looking for bakers, cashiers, and artists! (to make really funky designs of course... ^_^) We could have a trial run and bring a little bit to one of our meetings? Hmm? Try out some yummy foods? yes yes?

I'm working on getting pictures up. So far me and luis have A LOT of them, and we're trying to upload them to our site and our online albums. You can view our progress so far by clicking here....

ahh, fall....

As you can imange, lots of things have changed since the last post. ChibiCon2008 happened. And it kicked ass. I would like to thank everyone who came, helped, danced, and hung out. I'd like to thank in particular, BCC Video Game and Technology Club, BCC Anime Club, FIT's Anime club, and Rugters New Brunswick's Anime and Japanese Environmental Society. I'd like to thank the other MSU clubs, Spectrums, WMSC, A.S.S.I.S.T, and the montclairon. (despite the fact that they mistakenly credited M.U.G for the game room) I'd also thank Yarei, the artist who airbrushed the t-shirts.

I'd like to thank our eboard and members who worked hard for all of this. You all rock.

Now, it's fall and we're back in school. Which means we get to plan ChibiCon2009! This blog will be updated with the latest information, and is a great way for us to hear some feedback.

ChibiCon2009 planning starts the 1st week of October!!!
Hopefully the Saturday of that week, the 4th, we can all come together and start brainstorming ideas. We will be meeting at a Chinese buffet, somewhere. If you know a place thats good and happens to have a room with a closed door where we can converse, we'd like to know it.

Saturday, March 29, 2008

1 week until ChibiCon2008!

Oh dear god, I'm not allowed to sleep this week. For the love of god, spread the word of mouth. We want to be the biggest event on campus this weekend! (Or any weekend for that matter.)
Too tired to update, must keep making schedules.... U_U

w00t Spring Break!

I hope everyone is well and enjoying Spring Break, at least at MSU. Just to put it out there, me and a few of the members are going to be hanging out with the other clubs since we have some free time. BCC's anime club meetings are on Wednesdays around noonish, and the BCC Game club is on thursdays around noon. *Rutger's Magic the Gathering Club meets on Fridays around six, but I believe they are on spring break while we are. We're going next week.*

(For my gaming friends, this means we can play magic on tuesdays, thursdays and fridays. ^_^)

Ah, as you enjoy this break, we'll be running around buying stuff for chibicon and making sure everything doesnt catch on fire.

submit your fan generated works, your favorite amvs, and the boxes of brownie mixes you'll never make.

be good, don't drink and drive. drink, then play limbo.

>_< Japan Club does not endorse drinking. Be good, and wait till your 21 to have your sake.

=^_^=

On behalf of Japan Club, thanks to everyone who showed up at Mitsuwa this weekend! We are so happy everyone could make it in the rain, even though some of us got soaked. U_U Words can't describe this weekend. It rocked my mismatching striped socks.

Thanks to all of our members who stuffed themselves in themselves in the cars during the rain. Thanks to all our drivers risking it in the rain. Special thanks to jeannie for not killing me for forgetting to give her directions.

It was great to hang out with Rutgers, Bergen Community College, and the Fashion Institute. Seriously, I haven't stopped smiling since. Oh that and this weekend Brawl came out. *Snake, I'm on my way! Just you wait Kirby, your neck is so snapped....*

I'd like to announce the fact that we are going up for our bill this Wednesday. There's a meeting at noon, and if that goes well there will be a meeting at 3:30 with the rest of the SGA to get our money.

Soon enough the flyers will be uploaded and emailed, along with a tentative schedule that I've been able to draw up so far.

We'll be needing a staff list soon, so anyone directly involved needs to give me a name, t-shirt size, and what they do to contribute at ChibiCon. (We are more than happy to give you a chance, but no free rides.)

This weekend was teh delicious.

Mitsuwa trip is drawing near...

  • This Sat. is our semesterly Mitsuwa trip. This one happens to be a special one, since other clubs will be meeting us there. We will be meeting with BCC, Rugters, and F.I.T.'s anime clubs.

  • We'll be meeting in front of the Red Hawk Diner at 11:45am, sat, march 8th. We should have enough cars to carpool everyone, as long as you've told us your coming. If your not sure, please tell us. We don't want to have to leave anyone behind. U_U

  • This weekend we'll be doing programming and schedules and what nots. If you have any ideas for panels or anything, now is the time to tell us.

  • By the way, thank you to everyone who has been helping out in the library. We're actually building up quite a collection.

  • There are new pix on facebook, Luis took quite a bit of phots from the last two meetings and our last event.

ugh... we need money

Alright peoples, we're down to one month, more or less, or ChibiCon2008. The problem is money. Now we need to go and buy stuff. First off, let me make a list of stuff that would be lovely id donated:

Prizes: dvds, t-shirts, etcs cool stuff you dont need or have space for. like the two copies of the same dvd you have

Food stuffs: plastic ware, spoons knives the whole bit. Not to mention any of those cake mixes your moms been hoarding but never using. Non perishable items like coffee, sugar, hot chocolate packets, tea...

Blank DVD cds for us to burn with. We're starting to make our library.

We plan to hopefully have two bake sales before ChibiCon.

Hopefully, other clubs can help us buy stuffs or donate prizes.

We are also looking for any businesses or organizations that want cheap advertising. TokyoJam is set to come out that week, so we are hoping that local businesses will help us fund out event and get some business out of it too.

Tentative prices:
full page = $50
half page = $25
quarter page= $15
eighth page= $10

TokyoJam will be a full color magazine to be available for ChibiCon2008, an event reaching many many people.

We are collecting a pool of funds to help us buy stuff. The SGA will reimburse the money once all the paperwork is done. Anyone who could help us by letting us borrow money would be a great help.

Sunday, February 17, 2008

yay for planning

We are laying things down for ChibiCon2008. One of the newer things we are trying is going to be the maid cafe. Food, beverage, and a few other things are going to be at the cafe. Here's a nice tentative list.

  • Food
    • Candies, such as gummies and pocky
    • baked goods, such as cupcakes and cookies
    • fruit, washed and cut, such as apples, bananas and good stuff
    • maybe cold sandwiches, like bagels, and ham and cheese. probably prewrapped.
  • Beverages
    • Water
    • Tea
    • Coffee
    • Sodas
    • Juice boxes
    • those wonderful japanese drinks that go pop...
  • Stuff
    • T-shirts
    • glow sticks
    • disposable cams?
    • maybe trinkets, like cat ears and bells?
The maid cafe might be just a stand behind the counter thing, it really depends on how many maids we get. If your interested in working at the maid cafe, email us. Remember, if your part of staff, you get a free ChibiCon t-shirt. *and maybe a cupcake* ^_^

Saturday, February 9, 2008

The date is official!

April 5th is the day for ChibiCon 2008!

We are really looking to make ChibiCon big this year, and so we would like to invite every club, organization, and school within the 50 mile radius. And farther if your willing to come. Anyone who enjoys anime, manga, or just Japan in general should attend. Find us on Facebook or the website.

If you would like to run a panel or workshop, send us an email. We'd like all ideas submitted by March 1st so we have enough time to prepare.

Right now there is talk of a maid cafe and a projector for the showings. ^_^

Want a free tshirt? Join our staff team.

In other news, elections were had. I am the new vice president and Abdul our new treasurer. ^_^ - quel

Nominations and Elections

Alright, I have great news. We will be having nominations and elections on Tuesday. We would like to finish this issue at once, since it has been dragged on for so long. The attorney general will be there to make the election valid, which is why we need your support. Let's get the paperwork out of our way, so we can move onto the good stuff. Planning ChibiCon2008.

Frustrated at 3:00AM

Our website is coming along nicely. Unfortunately, I can't stand the fact I can't do everything I want with the graphics. We use Google for a lot of things, and it makes sense because things are a lot easier with one screen name and password. But since Google's page creator is still in the beginning stages, it's not very developed yet. You have to choose one of their layouts, and frankly they just don't work for me. Please excuse if things look a little off on the website. I'm stuck. I'm no wizard at html, and the basic choices hinder my artistic ways... U_U until Google further develops this a little further, I'm afraid nothing really cool is going to happen. *sigh* -quel

woot...

I am rather impressed. We've gotten most of the votes for Saturday. This is a good sign, since a Sat is easier to book for the ballrooms than a Friday. Now I would like to know who is saying Saturday and why... if it's more convenient for people from outside the Montclair community, I will push for Saturday. Feel free to post on this blog, you don't need an account to comment. If anything email us or leave a comment on Facebook. - quel

Yay, we actually got responses... So far there's 3 votes for Sat. and 1 for Friday. However, even if Sat "wins", it might not be on a Sat. It really depends on how available the day is and how much support is thrown behind it. I urge you to support whichever day you would prefer...

I think I will create a chart to point out the pros and cons... until later... -quel
